Manga tattoos are a 18th century style of Japanese artwork that has been incorporated into Western tattoo art. Manga translates to “whimsical” or “impromptu pictures”. It is characterized by large eyes and exaggerated features, such as hair and body proportions.

While most actual manga novels are black & white many manga tattoos are completed in color. Tradional tattoo artists keep to blackwork versions called “Otaku Tattoos”. Uncolored manga mostly have outlines and little to no shading.
